June 2019 Press release
Nurture and Nature Montessori Preschools
Founded in 2007 to foster a love of learning and to educate children to be caring, socially responsible citizens of their community and world, Nurture and Nature Montessori Preschools now consists of three well established schools in the Northern Suburbs of Johannesburg. A fourth school, in Sandton, will be opening in time for Term 3 2019. The educational and supplemental programs at Nurture and Nature Montessori involve children from eighteen months through to five years old in two different programs: Toddler and Preschool.
Recognised by the South African Montessori Association, Nurture and Nature schools embody Dr Montessori’s remarkable vision and method of teaching. Unique to Nurture and Nature is the tried-and-tested blend of Traditional and Montessori principles, which reveal each child’s innate love of learning and prepare the children to thrive in a complex world. By incorporating the best of both teaching methodologies, and allowing the children to grow in a nurturing environment, children graduate from Nurture and Nature with the skills enabling them to thrive in any Primary school environment, be it Traditional or Montessori, Public or Private.
Each Nurture and Nature Preschool works off the same values and ethos. These owner-run Montessori Preschools have grown and developed over the years to bring the community a nurturing environment for children to learn and grow. The owners are Principals at the schools and are mothers themselves, so they understand the need for quality education during this important phase in a child’s life.
Nurture and Nature Preschools offer children a tranquil environment, with beautifully laid out classrooms, ensuring that the children have the space needed to move around with ease during their Montessori work cycle. The neatly laid out Montessori workstations, allow children to learn and grow through play and include Culture, Maths, Language, Practical Life and Sensorial areas. Each school has a welcoming library offering a promise for learning and curiosity, and expansive open outdoor play areas with jungle gyms, swings, sandpits and bike tracks to ensure movement and development. The school acknowledges that parents may both work full day, as such half day and aftercare options are available with holiday care throughout the year. Each school has access to a closed off, secure heated swimming pool where swimming lessons are on offer by well-trained coaches.
All children receive a cooked lunch prepared daily by a skilled chef that ensures a nutritional balanced diet with wholesome healthy food options. The vegetables are handpicked from the school’s vegetable garden. For Baker’s Day, the whole class is involved in preparing, making and sharing healthy treats while children are prepared for public speaking through sharing their Show-and-Tell items from home. Every two weeks, children are led through a different theme, where art work, creativity and knowledge are combined to further enhance their learning.
The teachers are highly qualified and have a hands-on, caring approach to each child’s development; upskilling them as they work through the various Montessori workstations. Time is set aside each day for one-on-one teacher-pupil focused sessions and parents receive individualised monthly feedback. Potty training is offered for the younger ones as they move through their growth stages.
Nurture and Nature Montessori Preschool seeks to educate the whole child, applying the Montessori philosophy, in a family-oriented environment. The philosophy is based on the principles of Dr Maria Montessori (1870-1952) whose holistic vision of education focuses on the cognitive, social, emotional and physical needs of the child. For Dr Montessori, and for Nurture and Nature Montessori Preschool, education is preparation for life.
